Cost and estimates
How much does gutter installation cost in San Diego?
Seamless aluminum runs about $8-$15 per linear foot installed. Copper runs $25-$45 per foot. Gutter guards add $5-$12 per foot, and downspouts run $8-$12 per foot of drop. The on-site measure sets the written price.
Is the on-site measure really free?
Yes. A crew measures every run, checks the fascia and slope, and hands you a written estimate with no obligation and no trip fee for your zip.
Can I just replace one run of gutter?
Yes. Single-run replacements, downspout adds, and one-off repairs are all common. You do not need to redo the whole house to fix the one side that overflows.
Gutters and materials
What is the difference between seamless and sectional gutters?
Seamless gutters are formed on site from a coil into one continuous run, so the only joints are at corners and outlets. Sectional gutters have a seam every ten feet that eventually leaks. Seamless costs a little more and lasts far longer.
Aluminum or copper, which should I pick?
Aluminum is the workhorse: baked enamel in dozens of colors, handles salt air, and fits most budgets. Copper costs three to five times more but lasts decades and looks right on Spanish and custom homes. Most San Diego homes go aluminum.
What size gutter do I need?
Five-inch K-style handles most single-story homes. Steep roofs, large roof areas, and heavy tree load call for six-inch gutters and larger downspouts so they do not overflow in a real storm. The measure sizes it to your roof.
Guards, timing, and process
Do gutter guards actually work in San Diego?
Good micro-mesh guards keep eucalyptus leaves, pine needles, and roof grit out so water keeps flowing. No guard is fully maintenance-free, but the right one cuts cleaning from several times a year to once. Tree load decides which type fits.
How long does the job take?
Most whole-home seamless installs finish in one day since the gutters are formed on site. Copper and complex multi-level roofs run two days. A repair or downspout add is often a same-day visit.
Do I need a permit for gutters?
Standard gutter replacement and installation does not require a permit in San Diego. Fascia structural repair or tying downspouts into an underground drain system can, and your crew handles that when the scope calls for it.
About the service
Are you the company doing the install?
No. Gutter Works SD is a referral service. We match you with insured local gutter crews and help you get a clear written estimate. The crew you hire does the install.
Are the crews insured?
The crews we match carry general liability and workers comp, and we confirm coverage before work starts. You can verify any California contractor license at cslb.ca.gov.
What does the service cost me?
Getting matched and getting the on-site measure and written estimate costs you nothing. You only pay the crew you choose for the actual gutter work.
